Hello, my name is Michelle Murray and I welcome the opportunity to work with you. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) and Master of Science degree (M.S.) in Criminal Justice from Chicago State University. I went on to earn my Master of Arts degree (M.A.) in Counseling Psychology from Trinity Christian College in 2016.
My counseling style is client-centered as determined by the needs of the client by focusing on strength-based approaches. I focus on helping clients achieve a more centered, balanced life by giving them the tools needed to grow within life’s challenges. I focus on a holistic approach to address the functional, emotional, and psychosocial health of the clients by utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness.
I am an autism advocate who has more than 20 years of experience working with parents who have children on the autism spectrum. I also have experience with a wide array of clinical issues with clients ranging in age from childhood through late adulthood and have counseled clients on issues related to depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, bipolar disorder, LGBTQ+ issues, troubled teens, defiant children, poor academic motivation, ADHD, OCD, couples’ counseling, and family tensions. I also work with clients struggling with the daily cares of life (relationship, career, finances), life transitions, grief and loss, and spiritual issues. I have a passion for working with parents who have children with special needs and am also highly attuned to social justice issues, the plight of immigrant and refugee populations, and helping socially disadvantaged groups.
I have worked with diverse groups of people in a variety of settings which include the following: community organizations, social service agencies, and in prison settings. I am passionate about helping to empower clients by validating their feelings and progressing to their goals. I believe healing is a beautiful and complex process and counseling allows me to promote emotional well-being. I remain present with clients to do the healing work with them as they journey to having a vibrant life.
I provide teletherapy services for Home Psych Services, P.C. and Generations Behavioral Healthcare, P.C. using secure video teleconferencing for the comfort, convenience, added privacy, and safety of my clients.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I am family-oriented and enjoy spending time with family and friends. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, and attending plays.
