Hello!  I am grateful that you have found me and would love to tell you a bit about myself.  My name is Michael Minnella, but please simply call me Mike.  I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois.  I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Sports Management in 1997 and my Master of Arts degree (M.A.) in Health Psychology in 2000 – both from National-Louis University in Chicago.   I also have clinical counseling licensure through the National Board of Clinical Counselors (NCC) and have separate certifications in trauma, wellness, and appointment as a Master Fitness Trainer through the International Sports Science Association.

I have over twenty (20) years of experience as a professional counselor.  I have a varied background in working in a variety of capacities and with an array of clients.  My professional experience includes work in outpatient private practice, wellness coaching, social work services, addiction treatment, and community mental health counseling.  I have provided behavioral healthcare services across the lifespan and work on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, immigration and acculturation issues, LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized communities, burnout, job stress, trauma, substance abuse, health concerns, family problems, relationship trouble, and self-esteem / men’s issues.  I specialize in working with clients where physical problems and / or disabilities are contributing to psychological distress such as medical diagnoses of cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, morbid obesity, long haul COVID-19, thyroid disease, and Crohn’s disease – just to name a few conditions.

I am friendly and engaging in counseling and enjoy utilizing person-centered approaches and blending other modalities – like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – to tailor a treatment plan to meet each client’s unique needs.  I make every effort to use active listening skills when communicating with my clients.  It is my hope that my experience as a counselor combined with my empathy, compassion, and drive to help others will provide you with the right fit to move forward in your life and overcome your problems.

I provide teletherapy services for Home Psych Services, P.C. and Generations Behavioral Healthcare, P.C. using secure video teleconferencing for the comfort, convenience, added privacy, and safety of my clients.

I am happily married and have two grown children who have obtained their college degrees.  I enjoy boating, exercising, spending time with my family, and going to our property up in Michigan on a lake to relax, recharge, and take time to connect to what’s most important.
